Grüner Veltliner BIO

Veltliner from the Goldeck parcel. Grapes from a southeast slope above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers, limestone underfoot, sun from above. Hand harvest, biodynamics, spontaneous fermentation in Austrian casks and Italian amphorae, ten months on the lees. No filtration, no fining. Matte gold in color, lime, basil and white pepper on the nose, concentration, juiciness and a spicy acidity with a long finish on the palate. This is not a typical Veltliner. It is an interpretation of a place.

Veltlínske zelené the home variety of the Devín terroir

If Devín has an ambassador, it is Veltliner. At home on limestone, open to the sun, a variety that carries the backbone typical of this terroir. Our single varietal version reveals what it only hints at in the Cuvée.

Devín vineyard, Veltliner, the home variety
Limestone · sunny slopes · Devín

Grüner Veltliner is a variety everyone in Central Europe knows. In Devín it does exceptionally well. The soils here give it a mineral backbone, and the southwest slopes give it just enough ripeness to stay upright.

With us it matures in its own time, on its own lees. No masking, no compromise. Veltliner in a corner where it feels at home. In a glass that finally lets it say everything.

Character

At home on limestone. At home in Devín.

No other variety shows the Devín terroir as precisely as Veltliner. Yellow fruit, creaminess and spice on limestone bedrock are the signature of this place.

Humility before the variety

  1. Step 01

    Hand harvest

The grapes are picked at the exact moment sugar and acidity are in balance, not a day earlier, not a day later.

  2. Step 02

    Spontaneous fermentation

Fermentation starts with wild yeasts from the vineyard. No cultures, no selection, the terroir speaks for itself.

  3. Step 03

    Barrel and amphora

It matures on its own lees in Austrian barrels and clay amphorae. Texture builds, varietal character stays.

Veltliner in Devín is the same wine as anywhere else and at the same time completely different. The place makes that difference, and you can taste it in the glass.
